We firmly believe in the idea that a company is only as good as its people. As a small business, each employee at Designs of Distinction plays an important role in our day-to-day operations.
We’re kicking off a series of Employee Features, not only to show appreciation for our employees, but also because we want you to know who’s who and what they do at Designs of Distinction. This week, we’re featuring one of our Sales Associates – Nick C.
Weāve asked our employees a series of questions to kick off our āget to know usā campaign, so letās get started!
Introducing: Nick C.
How long have you been with Designs of Distinction?
Been with DOD since 2017 so about 6 years. But really, I have been with Brown since I was legally able to work. Starting in the warehouse and working my way to brand ambassador and eventually a position in Sales.
What does your job entail?
I handle the custom side of the company. Whether that is modifications on products we currently offer or fabricating entirely new designs. I help create custom parts for both the kitchen and bath/furniture side of the company as well as our made-to-spec side of the company. I also do a lot of hands-on work with some of our programs like the bistro program.
What is your favorite part of the job?
It seems rare that the company that hires you actually trusts you to get the job done. DOD really puts you in the driverās seat and trusts you to not only get your projects completed, but to stay on top of secondary operations you may be working on. Being able to get projects done at your own pace and without a supervisor breathing down your neck, makes a world of difference when you are coming to the office every day. It is a welcoming environment where the leaders nurture the people who work for them and trust them to do their best for the company. And it definitely shows.
Who/what is your biggest inspiration in the company?
The ability to pivot and create new product offerings that while out of our comfort zone, open up new doors and opportunities. We are no stranger to innovation. We are Brown Wood Inc. and we are heavily investing in brass bistro shelving and metal accent pieces. We still have out tried and true wood products, but understand the shift in need in the industry and are able to roll with the punches and craziness that has occurred the last few years
Describe Designs of Distinction company culture in a few words:
It has been mentioned by others, but it truly is a blessing to work for a company that treats itsā employees with respect and dignity and bends over backwards to help out everyone from the warehouse workers to the office associates. We really are a big family and the leaders make that apparent.
What’s your hidden talent?
I have a pretty symmetrical eye when it comes to making things on center. This comes in handy at home when hanging things on walls, but also serves very well for when we are setting up trade show booths or working on displays at the office.
What show are you obsessed with right now?
Yellowjackets!
Thanks to Nick for his time & insight into what it’s like being a Sales Associate at Brown Wood Inc. Stay tuned to meet more of our employees!
